Philip Casey (1951 to 2018), novelist and poet, was the begetter and original maintainer of Irish Writers Online. You can read Philip’s Irish Writers Online entry here.

Irish Writers Online is a public service, dedicated to Philip’s memory, with no expectation of financial support, just as it was when Philip kindly and generously created and curated this site. This site was not updated since a few years before Philip was taken from us with cancer, so please do help with any necessary additions or corrections to Writers, Publishers, Bookshops or
Resources as described in “Inclusion and Updates” below.

Inclusion and Updates

This is a democratic and inclusive website. Provided the body of a writer’s work fulfills the “Criteria for Inclusion”, there is no intention to exclude anyone.

If someone is not in Irish Writers Online, or if their details are out of date, it merely means that us volunteers with limited spare time have either unintentionally overlooked, or have been unaware of the omitted writer.

If you think a writer should be included or updated, please get in contact, but read the “Criteria for Inclusion” first. If you have information on a writer, so much the better – send it. We would appreciate if you studied the format before sending information.

Criteria for Inclusion

At least one published poetry or short story collection, novel, play or script (not vanity published) or if it’s a play or film, produced professionally. Electronically published books should have an imprint and ISBN.

Please read some sample entries to get an idea of the bare bones format. Essentially: Name, place of birth, year of birth (optional) books, place of publication, publisher, year. Any awards, where living now (optional). Do include your website address if you have one. It’s helpful to mention your discipline or disciplines ie novelist, poet, or novelist and poet, etc.

Contacting Writers

We are not in contact with the vast majority of the writers listed. In general, the best thing to do is contact a writer’s publisher. See Irish Publishers which may help in this regard.
